Revel in the process.

In line at the DMV, I talked to a few people as we waited for the office to open. One person was excited to register a car he’d had for four and a half years eager to get it on the road after waiting for the registration to come through. Another man complained that there were no benches to accommodate him while he waited for the doors to open and felt a complaint should be filed. An older woman waited patiently with her make-up fresh knowing she would have her photo taken for her Real ID. You can guess that the person with the sour attitude, shoulders pulled up, and clearly unhappy looked the oldest. And even though the woman was elderly, she had an air of childlike anticipation that drew me in. 

As I age chronologically, I’m interested in remaining ageless on the inside. I’ve purchased a ukulele from the local pawn shop. It is a new interest, and requires a new skill set, learning fingering, tuning, strumming, and reading music. I’ve also searched for new routes to my favorite coffee shop that resulted in getting lost (just once). Reading has spawned interesting conversations. And travel allows me to sample new cuisines and meet new friends. 

The more positive I am, the happier I am, the healthier I am, and the more fun I’m having. This year began with the creation of a vision board of dreams and desires. I’ve cultivated new friendships, written a new book, and enjoyed the company of my writer’s group. The more I open to the new, the more flexible I become.

And, after filling out the paperwork and having my photo taken for the renewal of my driver’s license. I didn’t pass the written test. My reading should have included the Driver’s Handbook. I’ll read the handbook, retake the test, and revel in the process.
